A woman was reported stable Sunday night after she had a heart attack and was whisked off a cruise ship in the Pacific Ocean by military helicopter, the Coast Guard said.

The woman, who was described only as 57 years old, was aboard the Princess Cruises ship Grand Princess, about 80 miles southwest of Monterey, California, when she experienced chest pains about 6:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. ET), the Coast Guard said.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended that the woman be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station San Francisco was dispatched, and the crew hoisted the woman off the ship and flew her to the mainland.
