The body of a 100-year-old woman was found in the flooded basement of her suburban Detroit home, the second death that may be related to storms that inundating freeways and stranding drivers.
The discovery in Warren was made Tuesday by the woman’s daughter, who went to check on her, police told NBC News. They could not confirm her death was storm-related. On Monday, a series of storms dropped as much as 6.25 inches of rain in the Detroit area and 5.2 inches in Warren, according to NBC affiliate WDIV. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said the amount was the highest single-day rainfall in 89 years. At least five freeways in the area remained closed Tuesday.

On Monday, a 30-year-old woman suffered a seizure and died after her car was trapped by floodwaters, also in Warren, a city of about 134,000 north of Detroit, WDIV reported. More than 1,000 submerged cars were reported in Warren, the station reported. Michigan State Police said Tuesday it was sending divers to search submerged cars, and that no other injuries or deaths were believed to have been caused by the storm.
Parts of Maryland were also drenched Tuesday, with more than eight inches of rain falling in parts of Baltimore, according to The Weather Channel. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for the region.
