A Wyoming nursing home resident fatally shot one person and wounded two more Wednesday before killing himself as cops were closing in.
The 77-year-old shooter, Larry Rosenberg, lived at the Heritage Court Apartments in Cheyenne, said Officer Dan Long, a spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department.
The mayhem erupted around 11 a.m. (1 p.m. ET) at the sprawling facility on the city's northeast side.
For reasons still unclear, Rosenberg opened fire with a .22 caliber handgun, hitting one person inside the facility and two more in the parking lot, Long said.
Rosenberg then fled, and when police caught up to him — about three miles from the facility — he turned the gun on himself and fired.
The conditions of the two surviving victims was not immediately known.
Two nearby elementary schools were placed on lockdown for several hours while police investigated.
