Police at Indiana University Bloomington arrested two men Sunday in connection with an altercation that left one student with a knife wound and prompted a campus-wide lockdown.
Police arrested Zesen Shen, 18, and Kaiyu Lao, 21, Sunday morning following an incident outside the Tulip Tree Apartments on campus. Shen was charged with intimidation and battery, and Lao has been charged with intimidation.
Witnesses said an argument erupted early Sunday after the two suspects and the victim met in the parking lot of the complex to resolve a dispute, according to cops. They said the suspects then chased the 20-year-old IU student and attacked him with a knife.
The student was being treated at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital for a "non-life threatening" cut in the back in connection with the incident, police said.
Campus police had imposed a lockdown at the campus starting at 4 a.m. ET Sunday but lifted it several hours later after they believed the suspects at large posed no danger to anyone on campus, officials said via the university's Twitter feed:
Police had sent out messages saying, "Armed individual at large on campus. Take shelter in nearest room, lock the door, avoid windows. Stay inside until we give all clear."
Earlier, police said they were searching for two Asian men in connection with the incident.
Parents of students attending IU also received automated phone calls about the situation.
Shen and Lao were discovered inside a nearby apartment shortly after 8 a.m., along with four other people who were brought in for questioning. None of the other four are suspects in the incident.
Indiana University has eight campuses, including its flagship campus in Bloomington with some 40,000 students.
