A tornado touched down Thursday and cut a half-mile path outside St. Louis, the National Weather Service said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but the storm brought down trees and power lines. The twister struck the St. Louis suburb of University City. The tornado was about 100 yards wide, the weather service said. It was classified as an EF-1, the second-weakest on the scientific scale, meaning it probably packed wind of at least 86 mph.
