A student was arrested Tuesday for making a "terroristic threat" after a social media post warning people to stay off Texas A&M's campus was traced back to his cellphone, police said.
"THIS IS NOT A JOKE! DON'T GO TO CAMPUS BETWEEN 7 AND 730 THIS WILL BE MY ONLY WARNING," the message on anonymous service Yik Yak read, according to a statement from the Texas A&M University Police Department.
Investigators obtained an emergency subpoena and issued it to Yik Yak, which then provided a cellphone number, officials said.
Christopher Louis Bolanos-Garza, 21, of Humble, Texas, was arrested on the College Station campus at 6:54 p.m. He was taken to the Brazos County Detention Center where he was being held without bond as of late Tuesday.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Yik Yak is an app popular on college campuses because its anonymous messages can be read within an extremely localized radius, effectively creating nameless community message boards.
