Police arrested and charged a 17-year-old in connection with a shooting at a Pittsburgh-area mall on Saturday which wounded three people — two critically. Authorities have said they believe one of the victims was targeted.
Tarod Thornhill, 17, is accused of fleeing the Monroeville Mall, east of Pittsburgh, after the shooting on the lower level of a Macy's department store. Allegheny County Police said detectives tracked him down through social media posts and surveillance video, according to NBC station WPXI, and arrested the teen shortly after 3 a.m. WXIA reported that Thornhill has been charged as an adult with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
The alleged target is in critical condition, according to police. The bystanders are in critical and stable condition, though authorities did not specify between the two. The mall has been the scene of trouble in the past. In December, there was a massive brawl inside the mall, NBC station WPXI reported. Weapons of any kind are prohibited at the shopping center, except those carried by law enforcement, according to the mall's posted code of conduct.
