An autopsy released Friday of Cleveland boy Tamir Rice confirms the 12-year-old died from a single gunshot wound to the torso with "injuries of major vessel, intestines and pelvis." The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office listed the manner of death as a homicide.

A police officer fatally shot Tamir on Nov. 22 outside of a Cleveland recreation center — an incident caught on surveillance. The officers told investigators that they believed the boy had been grabbing for a firearm, which was later discovered to be a toy pellet gun. The officer's bullet entered the left side of Tamir's abdomen and perforated the right side of his pelvis near the spine, according to the autopsy.
Tamir — who was 5-foot-7 and 195 pounds — died at the hospital the morning after the shooting. Evidence in the case is expected to be presented to a grand jury, which would decide whether to indict the officers involved.
