Five people, including three students, were injured in a shooting near the University of Iowa early Sunday, officials said.

The Iowa City Police Department said in a statement that it had identified five victims injured in the attack. One of them was hospitalized in critical condition, while the four others had been stabilized at medical facilities, it said.

University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson said in a statement that three of the injured are students. Campus Safety said in an alert, "There are no indications any university students were the intended victims."

Police indicated that no arrests have been made and that they are looking for multiple people of interest who were captured on security video.

"There is no known ongoing threat associated with this incident," police said.

The police department responded to the 100 block of East College Street downtown at about 1:46 a.m. after it received a report of a large fight, it said. Officers who arrived heard gunfire, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the altercation remain unclear.

Video circulating on social media appears to show a confrontation before the shooting that seemed to involve a large group of people. Several people could be seen punching and kicking others as bystanders urged them to stop.

It is unclear when gunfire began. Additional video on social media shows a large crowd fleeing.

A spokesperson for University of Iowa Health Care confirmed that the center received patients from the incident and said it is evaluating the severity of their injuries. The spokesperson did not provide any updates on their conditions.

Wilson said: "I am thinking about these students and their families, friends, and all the people who care about them. I am holding them close in my thoughts, along with everyone in our community who is hurting or feeling shaken right now.”

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds offered all the state’s resources for assistance in the investigation.

“This senseless act of violence has devastated the university community and our state,” she said.
