A skydiver died Saturday when his parachute failed to deploy, authorities in Louisiana said.
In a statement, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office described the skydiver, whose identity was not released, as an Asian male.
Gilliam Airport, about 25 miles north of Shreveport, reported the skydiver missing about 1:30 p.m. He was found about two hours later a couple of miles from the intended landing location, the sheriff’s office said.
The “skydiver’s parachute failed to deploy,” the statement said. He wore an orange wingsuit, the sheriff’s office said.
No one with the sheriff’s office or the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office was immediately reached Tuesday afternoon for additional comment.
Malfunctioning parachutes have been blamed for at least two other skydiving deaths this year.
In January, a Colorado man died after his parachute failed to deploy. Only a few days later, a faulty parachute also led to the death of a 73-year-old Arizona man whose parachute failed to fully deploy.
