Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two people at a Seattle homeless camp known as "The Jungle," police said.

The suspects — ages 13, 16 and 17 — were detained Monday at another homeless camp less than a mile from where the shooting was carried out last week, Seattle police said.

The trio, who have not been identified by officials, were interviewed and scheduled to be booked into a youth detention center "for investigation of homicide," the police department said.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been related to low-level drug dealing, Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole told a news conference Monday, according to NBC affiliate KING.

The police chief called the shooting a "senseless act of violence," adding that there were "definitely" three people at the scene, at least two of them shooters.

Officers also recovered one gun and served warrants on multiple vehicles and locations during what the police department described as a "relentless investigation."

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is now working to determine whether the firearm was used in the incident.

The shooting happened last Tuesday in "The Jungle," a homeless camp in a wooded area bordered by the I-90 and I-5.

Officers discovered five victims — three men and two women — suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. One man was pronounced dead at the scene while another died at a nearby hospital.

The victims were later identified by the King County Medical Examiner as James Q. Tran and Jeannine L. Zapata.
