Sheryl Lee Ralph is giving fans an update on the weather conditions in Jamaica ahead of Hurricane Beryl’s arrival on the Caribbean island.
On X, she shared a video of herself on camera as she spoke about the “calm” before the hurricane officially made landfall in Jamaica.
“From the looks of the sky, it looks like Beryl is going to be here much sooner than the news keeps saying so it’s very calm here in Jamaica,” she said. “The sky is so beautifully clear and they said that the sea looked like glass today.”
The “Abbott Elementary” star also talked about the preparations she made before the storm arrived on her beloved Caribbean island.
“I’m looking southeast and we had to take in all of the outside furniture because those things take flight. But, I just want to say to everybody, please stay inside,” Ralph advised. “There’s a curfew starting at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Stay off the road in Kingston. I hope you put oil in your lamp and are taking extra care.”
Ralph posted her video near 1 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3. She captioned the clip, “Good night from Jamaica 🇯🇲 Pray for us as you pray for others.”
Hurricane Beryl is classified as a Category 4 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center. The Center also predicts that the hurricane will bring its “conditions” to Jamaica on Wednesday afternoon “with life-threatening winds and storm surge” before it reaches the Cayman Islands on Wednesday night into Thursday.
So far, Hurricane Beryl has killed at least seven people, according to NBCNews. In a video statement that Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness shared on Tuesday, June 2, he urged local residents to evacuate their homes if they live in certain areas.
“If you live in a low lying area, an area that is historically prone to flooding and landslide, or if you live on the banks of a river ... I implore you to evacuate to a shelter or to safer ground,” he said.
