The man charged with the deadly shooting at Seattle Pacific University pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Monday — and his lawyer said he's planning an insanity defense, according to NBC affiliate King 5. Aaron Ybarra is being held without bail on charges of murder, attempted murder and assault in the June 5 attack, which left student Paul Lee dead.
Ybarra's lawyer, Ramona Brandes, says her client has a long history of mental illness. Prosecutors allege that the suspect stopped taking his medication because he "wanted to feel the hate," and wrote in his journal: "I just want people to die, and I'm gonna die with them!"
Prosecutors say they plan to seek a life sentence for the 26-year-old.
