The search continues for a former California sheriff’s deputy who vanished Tuesday while vacationing in Greece amid reports that a second American tourist has now gone missing.

Albert Calibet, who retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2018, disappeared after getting ready to head to the Greek island of Amorgos, a destination his family said he had repeatedly visited since 2009. A missing persons report was filed after Calibet failed to meet up with a friend.

“He knows this path, he knows this island,” family friend Robin Leon told NBC News. “The mayor knows him, every cafe knows him, people know Albert on that island. They love him.”

The municipality of Amorgos said in a Facebook post that Calibet, 59, had followed the route from the Asphontylite region toward the village of Katapola. He was wearing Bermuda shorts and a dark shirt when he disappeared, officials said.

Sandrine Cutwright, Calibet’s sister-in-law, told NBC News that “every minute, every hour that passes it gets more sad.”

Another American tourist in Greece was reported missing days after Calibet’s disappearance, according to reports. ABC News reported that the unidentified man was last seen Tuesday at a tavern in Mathraki, located west of Corfu Island, where he had been staying with a friend.

The friend called the police after returning home Thursday and finding the door to the house open, the lights on, and the air conditioning running, according to the outlet. The missing man’s ID and travel documents were gone, ABC News reported, citing investigators.

Both disappearances come days after Greek authorities found the body of British television presenter and healthy living advocate Michael Mosley in a rocky area on the Greek island of Symi.

Mosley, 67, was reported missing last week after failing to return from a walk he went on alone amid searing heat. Investigators said he died of natural causes.
