Authorities continued to search Sunday for two people missing after a small plane they were in crashed in Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana on Saturday night.
One person in the Cessna was rescued by a good Samaritan who reported the crash at 8:20 p.m. local time (9:20 p.m. ET), the Coast Guard said.
The good Samaritan told the responders that the plane was on a training flight, the Coast Guard said.
On Sunday, a New Orleans police dive team found the plane’s wreckage near the Lakefront Airport, police said. NBC affiliate WDSU reported that the debris would be recovered Monday.
The Coast Guard said Sunday in a news release that a helicopter crew and a 29-foot response boat were searching the area, and that a state rescue crew found what appeared to be wings.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash, the Coast Guard said.
