Famed mobster Whitey Bulger was upstaged at his own trial Friday when actor Robert Duvall came to watch.
The Oscar winner — who played mob lawyer Tom Hagen in "The Godfather" movies — sat in the back of the Boston courtroom where Bulger is on trial for racketeering and murder.
The 82-year-old star did not say if he was there for work or pleasure.
"Just thought it was interesting that's all," he said, according to a tweet from Boston Globe reporter Shelley Murphy.
While Duvall was in the courtroom, a former professional gambler named Frank Capizzi was on the stand, testifying about being shot in 1973 when the car he was in was riddled with bullets.
Duvall reportedly is in Massachusetts to film a movie called "The Judge," in which he plays the main character. His roles have varied from Boo Radley in "To Kill a Mockingbird," to Maj. Frank Burns in "MASH" to his Oscar-winning turn as a broken-down country singer in "Tender Mercies."
Bulger, 83, is charged with taking part in 19 murders and other crimes as head of Boston's Winter Hill Gang. He was arrested in 2011 after 16 years on the lam.
His story was an inspiration for the Martin Scorcese movie "The Departed," in which Jack Nicholson played an Irish-American mobster who had a corrupt relationship with law-enforcement.
