A prosecutor will release his final report next week on a man who was shot to death in a confrontation with FBI agents investigating his connection to the accused Boston Marathon bombers.
Authorities originally said that the man, Ibragim Todashev, lunged at one agent with a knife after they showed up to question him at his apartment in Florida last May. They later said it was not clear what happened.
Todashev knew the marathon suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, through mixed martial arts but had no connection to the attack, his father has said.
Todashev, who was 27 when he was killed, implicated Tamerlan Tsarnaev in a 2011 triple killing in Massachusetts, according to a court filing.
The father, who lives in Russia, wrote to President Barack Obama late last year and asked for help finding out what happened. “I plead with you,” he wrote, “to see that the law and justice triumph in my son’s case.”
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a firefight with authorities days after the marathon bombing last April. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is awaiting trial.
The FBI is also investigating Todashev’s death.
