PHOENIX — A passenger died on a US Airways flight to Phoenix from Honolulu after a suffering an unknown medical emergency, authorities say. The passenger was a woman in her 50s, according to Fire Capt. Benjamin Santillan.

The woman lost consciousness while the plane was in the air, Santillan said. She had no pulse and was pronounced dead by responders after the plane, US Airways Flight 693, arrived at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix. It left Honolulu on Tuesday night and arrived in Phoenix shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday. Matt Miller, a spokesman for US Airways' merger partner American Airlines, said the passenger's medical emergency occurred as the plane was descending into Phoenix. The cause of death has not been released.
