An Oregon man was in the county jail Monday charged with blowing marijuana smoke into the mouth of his infant child, police said Monday — allegedly not for the first time.
Christopher Robert Kling, 22, was arrested after Beaverton police responded shortly before midnight Sunday to a call for a disturbance related to a custody dispute issue between Kling and his estranged wife, police said. The officers were able to calm things down, police said — but then a family friend gave them a video showing Kling smoking from a glass pipe and blowing the smoke into his child's mouth, police said.
A police statement said the friend told officers that it was marijuana smoke and that it wasn't the first time Kling had done it.
Court records showed that Kling remained in the Washington County jail Monday in lieu of $1,000 secured bond on charges of application of a controlled substance to a minor — a class A felony.
"Children are one of the most vulnerable in our society and often don't have a voice," police said in the statement. "The Beaverton Police Department is grateful for this family friend that decided to be the voice for this infant."
