While most couples have a great proposal story, it seems that Micherre Fox's engagement ring will have its own tale to tell for years to come.
Fox, 31, traveled from New York to Arkansas as part of a trip to search for her own diamond to include in the ring, according to Arkansas State Parks. She decided to spend about a month at the Crater of Diamonds State Park, one of the only diamond-producing sites where members of the public are free to search for the valuable gemstones.
She arrived at the park on July 8, and it wasn't until her very last day, on July 29, that she found something glistening by her feet.
"Having never seen an actual diamond in my hands, I didn’t know for sure, but it was the most 'diamond-y diamond’ I had seen,” Fox told the park service.
The state park staff confirmed that Fox had found a 2.30-carat diamond, colorless with a rounded shape. It's the third-largest diamond found at the park this year.
Waymon Cox, assistant superintendent of the park, noted that Fox's weeks of hard work had paid off.
"Ms. Fox’s story highlights the fact that, even when putting forth your best effort, being in the right place at the right time plays a part in finding diamonds,” Cox said.
Fox described her search as "daunting." But her choice to look for her own gemstone was in some ways reflective of how problems come up in marriages.
"You need to be willing and able to solve those problems with hard work," Fox said.
