A frantic Massachusetts father called 911 after realizing he had left his 1-year-old baby in a car before getting on a train Wednesday.
The man, who has requested his name be withheld, dialed 911 from aboard the Red Line train in Quincy Wednesday morning, according to NBC affiliate WHDH of Boston.
"I left my 1-year-old baby in my SUV by accident this morning at North Quincy station," the man said in a 911 call released to WHDH. "I’m on my way back to the station now."
The man said he had dropped off his older child at school that morning, but accidentally left his baby asleep in the back of his SUV before getting on the train, according to WHDH.
A dispatcher sent Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Quincy police officers to the parking lot of the North Quincy station, where the baby had been sitting in the car for 35 minutes, according to MBTA police spokesman Lt. Richard Sullivan.
Sullivan said fortunately the child was "never in distress," according to the responding officers, and the baby girl was turned over to her mother.
No charges will be filed against the baby's father, Sullivan said.
"This guy made a terrible mistake," he said. "He was literally in tears."
The father described the incident as one of the worst days of his life.
"While this was one of the worst days of my life, I know that we were also very fortunate as it was a mild temperature day and I had come to my senses before too long," he told WHDH.
