Marcus Bryant, 37, was exiting a Q train in Brooklyn when his clothes were caught in the train's door, police said. Transit officials dispute that account, saying it was "not a door incident."

A man died in New York City after getting dragged onto subway tracks by a train and then being struck by another train.

Marcus Bryant, 37, was exiting a northbound Q train at East 16th street and Avenue M in Brooklyn on Wednesday night when his clothes became caught in the subway doors, according to the New York City Police Department.

He was then dragged onto the tracks as the train pulled away from the station, where he was hit by a second train, police said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced delayed Q train service at the station early Thursday as emergency services responded to a person hit by a train.

The incident occurred at about 11:53 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. Bryant was then transported to a nearby Maimonides Medical Center, where he died Thursday.

But New York City Transit President Richard Davey disputed the police account. Davey told reporters that it remains unclear how Bryant got stuck between the train and platform, NBC New York reported.

"This was not a door incident," Davey said at a press conference Thursday.

MTA employees who were involved have been questioned and are following agency protocol that requires drug and alcohol testing following such an accident, according to NBC New York.
