A man was taken into custody after he fired a handgun outside the Ethiopian embassy in Washington, D.C., Monday afternoon, the Secret Service said.
In a video taken by ESAT TV that captured the incident, the man, wearing a dark suit and holding a silver handgun, is seen pointing the weapon at others who try and reason with him during the confrontation, which occurred during a protest at the embassy. The Secret Service said it was called to the embassy at 12:15 p.m. on a report of “possible shots fired,” but in the video he fires a single shot. It is not clear whether the gun was fired at anyone or in the air.
No one was injured, Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary said. The name of the man who was detained was not immediately released. The Ethiopian embassy is located in a cluster of embassy buildings near the University of the District of Columbia, about four miles from the White House.
