Shayne Austin, a man with an alleged connection to the 2011 kidnapping and murder of Holly Bobo who was once offered immunity to testify in the case, has died.
His attorney, Luke Evans, confirmed Austin’s death to NBC News on Monday, saying “it appears that Mr. Austin took his own life.”
Austin allegedly had an agreement in early 2014 with prosecutors to testify in the killing of Bobo, a 20-year-old nursing student, but they later rescinded the deal, Evans told NBC Nashville affiliate WSMV.
Zachary Rye Adams and Jason Wayne Autry are charged with kidnapping and murder in the case. Adams' brother, John Dylan Adams has been charged with rape. All three have pleaded not guilty. In mid-December, a judge expressed frustration over how slowly the case has moved since Zachary Rye Adams first pleaded not guilty in March.
Austin had never been charged but remained a person of interest, according to WSMV.
