A preliminary investigation found that drugs and alcohol were not factors in a car crash that left former FBI Director Louis Freeh injured, police in Vermont said Tuesday.
Freeh, 64, suffered a broken leg, cuts to his head and other injuries on Monday when he drove his GMC Yukon off the road and into a mailbox in the town of Barnard, a law enforcement official told NBC News.
Vermont police said that they were still conducting interviews and that the crash was still under investigation. Freeh remained hospitalized Tuesday in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was FBI director from 1993 to 2001.
