At least two people were injured Sunday after an explosion rocked an apartment complex in an Atlanta suburb.

The explosion happened in Dunwoody, Georgia, in DeKalb County, around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Police told NBC affiliate WXIA of Atlanta that there was a "massive" explosion in the area and that some people were suffering from burns.

Fire officials said that at least two people were injured, one of whom has been hospitalized, and that two people were unaccounted for, WXIA reported.

The cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage remained unknown. Police reported a "strong smell of gas," according to WXIA. Atlanta Gas Light crews are at the site helping emergency responders with the investigation.
