One person was killed and three other people were injured after a small plane crashed Sunday in Nevada, police and fire officials said.
The plane crashed about 5:55 p.m. (8:55 p.m. ET) near Laughlin, about 95 miles south of Las Vegas, Clark County fire officials said. The size and type of aircraft were unknown.
Eyewitness Sharon Foust said that she could tell the plane was flying too low as it roared past her home in the small town.
"I shifted my eyes towards the mountain and I knew it wouldn’t be able to make it over," she told The Laughlin Times newspaper.
“The engine was revved up real fast like he was trying to take off," added her husband Bill. "Then I heard a boom. By the time I got outside I could see it burning.”
One of the four passengers was trapped in the crashed plane but was extricated within an hour by firefighters, NBC station KSNV of Las Vegas reported. Two passengers suffered burn injuries and were airlifted to hospitals.
The Cook County Fire Department said flaming wreckage spread fire to the surrounding brush, which sparked a call for additional resources — including wildland firefighters from the Nevada Department of Forestry — to fight the fire.
