Prosecutors on Tuesday filed a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon against the driver suspected of intentionally ramming her car into a crowd of pedestrians on the Las Vegas Strip.

Lakeisha Nicole Holloway, 24, killed one person and injured more than 30 others Sunday, when she swerved repeatedly onto and off of a packed sidewalk, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office said.

Her 3-year-old daughter was also inside the 1996 Oldsmobile; neither were hurt.

Holloway faces an additional one count of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment and one count of leaving the scene of an accident, prosecutors said.

If found guilty of the last count alone, Holloway could face up to 20 years in prison without the possibility of probation, according to the district attorney's office.

She is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday morning, court documents show.

The horrific event unfolded around 6:30 p.m. local time, but investigators still don't know why Holloway allegedly chose to slam her car into the crowd. She had been living out of the same vehicle in Las Vegas for about a week, and told police that when she ended up on the Strip, it was "a place she did not want to be," authorities said.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said in a statement. “This is a horrendous and inexcusable act that has needlessly and tragically impacted countless lives. I am confident that, as the investigation unfolds, we will be filing many more charges against Ms. Holloway.”
