A bond hearing was delayed Friday for the man who authorities say crashed his SUV into a car, pushing it into a Florida daycare center and killing a young girl, documents show.
Robert Corchado, 28, will be held in the Orange County Jail — on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with death — until Monday, a judge decided Friday by not setting bond, jail documents show.
Corchado's bond was originally set at $100,000, but a prosecutor argued Corchado is a flight risk, NBC affiliate WESH reported. The judge said he would make a decision regarding Corchado's bond on Monday.
Corchado fled the scene of the crash in Winter Park on Wednesday, and authorities spent 24 hours in an intense manhunt for Corchado before he turned himself in.
Corchado’s criminal record is littered with drug charges and a separate misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of a crash that involved property damage. Cindy Williams, a spokeswoman for Florida Highway Patrol, said Corchado also has ties to the Latin Kings gang.
Officials said a 4-year-old girl, identified by police as Lily Quintus, died at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children after the car was catapulted into a KinderCare. Twelve children and one adult were hospitalized following the crash.
