LOS ANGELES — A military veteran was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly shot a California Highway Patrol officer during a traffic stop, authorities said.
The confrontation unfolded shortly before 8 p.m. PDT on Monday near Campbell Hall, a prominent private school on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, near U.S. Highway 101 in Studio City, officials said.
An “altercation occurred” and the officer was shot multiple times and is listed in critical condition, the CHP said.
The shooting launched a citywide manhunt for the suspect, identified as a 33-year-old military veteran, Pejhmaun Iraj Khosroabadi.
Police and highway patrol initially surrounded an apartment complex in nearby Van Nuys after finding the suspect's white Ford Fusion parked in the building's underground garage, authorities said.
There was a blood trail around the suspect's car and he was found with a wounded hand when officers arrested him at a homeless encampment a short distance away near Gloria Avenue and Wyandotte Street, officials said.
