A storm packing high winds and heavy rain pummeled the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, leaving tens of thousands without electricity and inundating roads.
More than 2 inches of rain was reported in several spots around the Seattle region on Saturday. The National Weather Service said that up 10 inches was expected to fall in the mountains in western Washington and issued a flood watch through Monday morning.
A high wind watch was issued for the Seattle area through Sunday, with an even more powerful front packing wind gusts up to 60 mph forecast to sweep through that afternoon and night.
On Saturday, more than 16,000 customers lost power in the Seattle area, Seattle City Light reported, along with about 6,000 customers of PGE in the region. A falling tree brought down power lines onto Aurora Avenue north of downtown, temporarily blocking the major arterial.
In Oregon, more than 28,000 lost power in the Portland area, The Oregonian newspaper reported. High winds knocked trees down onto cars and at least one home in the area, NBC station KGW reported.
