Georgia Tech this week suspended a fraternity over an email that advised its members how to take advantage of women at parties and ended with a sign-off that referred to “luring the rapebait.”
The Alpha Rho chapter of Phi Kappa Tau was suspended for three years, the university’s Office of Student Integrity said in a statement. The office found a "pattern of sexual violence" that suggests a "deep-rooted culture within the fraternity that is obscene, indecent, and endangers women," NBC station WXIA of Atlanta reported.
The fraternity email, sent last September, gave graphic step-by-step descriptions of how to seduce women at the frat’s parties and advised members to offer more alcohol if necessary. After the email became public, the chapter suspended the member responsible and it was placed on probation by the university.
The university told the fraternity to leave its house by the end of this semester, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The university’s action against the fraternity was first reported in the college newspaper Technique.
