Former NFL linebacker Darron Alexander Lee was arrested and charged with his girlfriend’s murder Thursday in Tennessee.
Deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in Hamilton County Thursday afternoon following a report of a CPR in progress.
"Upon arrival, first responders located a female victim and attempted life-saving measures; it was determined she was deceased," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Detectives responded to the home and determined that the victim's cause of death was homicide, according to the sheriff's office.
Lee, 31, was identified as the suspect and taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, the sheriff's office said.
"Additional charges could be pending following the outcome of the investigation," the sheriff's office said. "The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin."
Lee was a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft who went on to play for the New York Jets for three seasons. In 2019 he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs and in 2020 he was signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad.
The linebacker was signed to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 but was placed on injured reserve and released shortly afterwards.
The NFL has declined to comment on the arrest.
Lee is being held at the Hamilton County Jail on no bond. His next court date is scheduled for Wednesday.
