Police are searching for three suspects Tuesday after one man was killed and four were injured in a shooting just blocks from a college campus in Tennessee.
Four victims were transported to area hospitals and one died after shots were fired at a house near the main campus of Austin Peay State University at around 9:00 p.m. local time (10:00 p.m. ET) Monday, said Clarksville Police spokeswoman Natalie Hall.
The injured victims were identified by Clarksville Police as Timothy Russell, 31; Dajuan Dowlen, 23; Tony Greene Jr., 28 and Quinton Fentress, 27.
Vincent Pardue, 27, died as a result of his injuries, according to police.
The victims were at a "cook-out" when shots were fired from a white Kia Soul driving by, police said. Investigators are searching for three males who were seen in the Kia, Hall said.
Austin Peay sent out an alert to students because the shooting happened near campus and emergency services used sports fields on campus as a landing area for the helicopters, the school's public relations executive director, Bill Persinger, said in a statement.
But Hall told NBC News that none of the victims were students, and there is "nothing that indicates this had anything to do with the college."
Hall said the motive was being investigated.
