Pennsylvania trooper-slaying suspect Eric Frein was added to the FBI’s most-wanted list on Thursday as authorities revealed he is likely still in the woods near the police barracks where the deadly ambush took place six days ago. The designation comes with a $100,000 reward and alerts on billboards up and down the East Coast. “We have made the world where he could hide a very, very small place,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Edward Hanko.
Frein, 31, is accused of opening fire on the Blooming Grove barracks last Friday, killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson and critically wounding Trooper Alex Douglass before retreating into the woods. State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said investigators don’t think he has gotten far. “We have additional reason to believe the subject still remains in the area,” Biven said, declining to say whether there had been a sighting of the fugitive. “We will get him. It’s simply a matter of time.”
Police say they have evidence that Frein — a military buff and skilled marksman — harbored anti-cop and anti-government views. Bivens said the suspect had expressed a desire to commit mass murder but that the general public was not his target. “The focus of his fight we believe is law enforcement,” he said.
