KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — Former President George H.W. Bush has been released from a Maine hospital after falling at his summer home and breaking a bone in his neck.

Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said that "a very grateful" Bush returned home Sunday from Maine Medical Center after four days of treatment for a fractured vertebra.

Doctors say Bush didn't suffer nerve damage when he fell at his home in Kennebunkport on Wednesday.

Doctors said they anticipate the 41st president will recover fully in three or four months.

Bush has a form of Parkinson's disease and uses a motorized scooter or a wheelchair for mobility. The 91-year-old is the oldest living former president.

A spokesman for Bush said the former president was grateful for the care and support:

The Republican served two terms as Ronald Reagan's vice president before being elected president in 1988.
