Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife have shared that they are grieving the death of their baby girl.
Vesia and his wife, Kayla, uploaded a joint post to Instagram on Friday about the tragedy.
The couple began their statement by revealing their daughter’s name: Sterling Sol Vesia.
“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” they wrote. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
They did not provide more details about their daughter’s death.
Vesia, who missed the 2025 World Series, and Kayla thanked the Dodgers for their support.
“Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” they said.
The two also expressed their gratitude to all Dodger fans and the Toronto Blue Jays, whom the Los Angeles team defeated in a seven-game series to claim a second-straight World Series title.
They added, “We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
At the end of their post, the Vesias thanked Cedars-Sinai and all the medical staff who took care of Kayla and their daughter.
The post included a black-and-white photo of a baby’s fingers wrapped around two hands.
Fans started sending the family well wishes on Oct. 23 when the Dodgers announced that Vesia was taking time away from the team.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the Dodgers said in an Instagram statement at the time. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
The couple revealed in April that they were expecting a child. They said they were looking forward to the “next chapter” of their lives and shared photos of Kayla cradling her baby bump.
The Vesias have been married since Jan. 5, 2024.
