Witnesses told of running for shelter as a tornado rolled through Indianapolis Tuesday, damaging several homes, tearing down power lines and uprooting trees. Don Rackley, 66, who lives in one of the city’s worst-hit neighborhoods, grabbed his grandchildren Ryan, 2 and William, 6 and ran into the bathroom as the tornado approached. “As I closed the door and I heard a big boom, the only thing I was concerned about was my grandbabies and my dog,” he told NBC News. “We got them all.”
Carsyn Reynolds, 16, tweeted a picture of her sister Grace and dog, Wendell, sheltering in the shower while Jennifer Cahill posted pictures as she and her office-mates to ride out the storm. No injuries were reported after the unsettled weather, which earlier this week also left many in Minnesota bailing out after torrential rain. Authorities say emergency funds are running out.
