A stolen 1979 Cadillac belonging to actor Jerry O’Connell was recovered after a traffic stop on Pacific Coast Highway, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told NBC4 Investigates.
A homeless man was behind the wheel of O’Connell's vintage luxury car when deputies pulled it over Jan. 13 for speeding. The driver failed to provide deputies with a driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance, the agency said.
The man claimed the car belonged to a family member but could not provide more details, the department said.
Deputies determined the car was registered to the O’Connell family and learned it was stolen from his Calabasas home in the west San Fernando Valley.
O'Connell, who is married to "X-Men" trilogy actor Rebecca Romijn, and his family were out of town and were not aware the car had been stolen, the sheriff’s department said.
The Cadillac was returned to O’Connell.
O’Connell starred in movies including “Stand by Me,” “Jerry McGuire” and "Scream 2," as well as in the TV series Sliders.
NBC Los Angeles has reached out to his representatives for comment.
