The shooting happened outside of Atlanta, and the teen suspect was captured several hours later over 150 miles away in Birmingham, Alabama.

A shooter opened fire inside a Georgia manufacturing plant early Friday, killing one worker, before he was arrested more than 150 miles away in Birmingham, Alabama, authorities said.

The shooting happened at 6:58 a.m. at the Dart Container Corp. plant in Conyers, Georgia, about 25 miles east of downtown Atlanta, the company and Rockdale County sheriff's deputies said.

The facility has about 300 employees.

More than five hours later, Sheriff Eric Levett announced that 18-year-old suspect Cameron Golden, who worked at the Dart plant through a temp agency, was captured at a Greyhound bus station in Birmingham.

"We don’t know why Mr. Golden began firing," Levett told reporters at a news conference midday Friday. "We don't have a whole lot of answers at this time."

The shooting victim was identified as 42-year-old Taurus Andrews, deputies and the company said.

“We don’t know if Mr. Andrews was a target," Sheriff Levett said. "We don’t know if Mr. Golden was upset with Dart Container. Was he upset with any particular person there? We just don’t know those answers as of yet.”

Andrews joined Dart in June 2018 as a utility worker, according to the company.

"Our hearts go out to his family and we are supporting them during this most difficult of times," Dart said in a statement. "Our Conyers facility will remain closed until further notice."

A supervisor working at the plant when the shooting unfolded also happens to be on the sheriff's SWAT team and was helpful in ushering workers to safety and bringing deputies into the facility, according to Levett.

Local schools and county buildings near the plant were placed on lockdown after the shooting, and returned to normal operations at about noon, officials said.

The Conyers plant makes food- and beverage-packaging products, according to the company.

Based in Mason, Michigan, Dart is best known for its 2012 acquisition of the Solo Cup Company, makers of the red cups that are ubiquitous at college parties and other social gatherings.
