Authorities have raided the Alaska Cannabis Club, owned by the former television news reporter who quit her job live on the air last year to fight for the legalization of marijuana.
Police in Anchorage served search warrants on Friday after receiving reports of the illegal sale of pot there, NBC affiliate KTUU reported. Police removed boxes and bags from the facility and impounded two cars. A spokeswoman said charges could be filed.
In September, Charlo Greene reported on marijuana for KTVA. Then she told viewers that she was the owner of the Cannabis Club and, in a moment that went viral, announced: “As for this job, not that I have a choice, but, f--- it, I quit.”
Voters have legalized the possession of marijuana in Alaska, but it remains illegal to sell it. Greene, whose legal name is Charlene Egbe, told KTVA that the club “basically a medical marijuana dispensary” — a place for cardholders to share their pot, not buy it.
She told The Associated Press that she reopened on Saturday, and “made it clear that the will of the people is stronger than any force they have — and we aren’t going anywhere.”
