A suspicious canister triggered a bomb scare on a busy West Hollywood sidewalk, police said.
Bomb squad officers were called out to inspect the container, which was found near the corner of Orlando Avenue and West 3rd Street — near a sports bar frequented by Leonardo DiCaprio.
Nearby homes and businesses were evacuated. The public was asked to stay away from the area and between 40 and 50 police were at the scene, Sgt. James Mankey of LAPD’s Wilshire police station said.
“We think it could be an environmental testing canister but people are being kept away until it is checked out,” he told NBC News.
The scene is close to Goal sports bar, one of DiCaprio's regular haunts. Nobody at the bar was available for comment early Wednesday.
