One of two military parachutists involved in a midair accident during the Chicago Air and Water Show on Saturday died Sunday afternoon, the Cook County coroner said Sunday.
The man, Sgt. First Class Corey Hood, 32, of Cincinnati, who was married, had spent a decade in the Army and had earned two Bronze Stars and two Meritorious Service Medals, The Associated Press reported.
The accident occurred after Hood — who belonged to the Golden Knights parachuting team — and a partner from the Navy's Leap Frog team attempted a "bomb blast," a stunt that involves forming a circle, then separating with a blast of red smoke, NBC Chicago reported.

Hood landed near Lake Michigan, on Lake Shore Drive, and he appeared to "clip" a building as he fell, a witness told NBC Chicago.
"He didn't look like he was conscious," the witness, Heather Mendenhall, told the station.
The second parachutist, who was not identified, landed on the beach and broke his leg. He was released from the hospital Saturday, according to NBC Chicago.
