Although the TV series only aired for three seasons on ABC, West's campy flare and slapstick turn as Batman remained a source of inspiration for fans.

Ben Affleck, who is slated to reprise his role as an older and more brooding Batman and the superhero's alter-ego, billionaire Bruce Wayne, in the upcoming "Justice League" film, praised West for setting the standard for future actors who donned the cape and mask.

Here are how other actors who played or voiced Batman as part of the franchise are remembering West:

Will Arnett did the voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne in "The LEGO Movie" and "The LEGO Batman Movie":

Val Kilmer starred in the 1995 film "Batman Forever":

Kevin Conroy played Bruce Wayne in more than 40 animated series and video games since the 1990s:

Jason Omara and Troy Baker, who've voiced the Caped Crusader in animated series and video games, each praised West for influencing and defining the role:

Even actors who once played the masked vigilante's arch-nemesis offered praise for the fallen hero. Mark Hamill, who famously gave voice to The Joker in the 1990s animated series, said he felt lucky to have worked with West.

Robin Lord Taylor, who currently stars as The Penguin in the Fox series, "Gotham," said Batman's fabled home city had lost a "legend."
