A man suspected in a shooting that killed five people and critically wounded a teenage girl in North Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday night died by suicide after officers tracked him down Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers responded to an apartment shortly after 10 p.m. Monday on reports of a shooting and found two wounded women who were later pronounced dead, police said. They were in their early 40s and late 50s.

Detectives then discovered a wounded 13-year-old girl at the apartment. The child was in critical condition at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, police said.

At a nearby apartment, officials found two other women in their mid 20s and a man in his early 20s who had been shot. They were declared dead at the scene, officials said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will provide the identities of the five victims, police said. No one with the coroner's office could immediately be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

Police named Eric Adams, 47, a suspect in the deaths.

Tuesday morning, North Las Vegas police received information about Adams' possible whereabouts, police said. Officers with the Criminal Apprehension team later found him, and he “was armed with a firearm and fled into the backyard of a residence at that location,” police said.

Officers began giving verbal commands to drop the gun; however, “Adams ignored those commands and died by suicide,” police said.

The Las Vegas police Force Investigation Team is assisting and investigating, North Las Vegas police said.

There was no additional information from police Tuesday afternoon. More details of the “overall investigation” will be released later, police said.

A possible motive was not released.
