Five Chicago police officers were hit by a car early Sunday morning while on duty on the city’s west side, the department said.

The officers were helping to disperse a large crowd at 3:20 a.m. when a blue vehicle traveling westbound in an eastbound lane hit them, the Chicago Police Department said.

The car allegedly mounted a curb and then hit a police patrol car, a utility pole and a fence before coming to a stop. Police said they arrested an uninjured 18-year-old male; charges are pending.

Police said they recovered a weapon from the vehicle. The department described its statement as preliminary and offered no additional details.

All five officers were taken to area hospitals and listed in fair condition. No other injuries were reported.
