Four people on board a ferry were hurt when the boat struck a slipway while attempting to dock in Jersey City Friday.

The ferry operated by NY Waterway hit boat slip 7 on the Hudson River at around 4:30 p.m., according to a company spokesman and to the Jersey City Fire Department. It's not clear what caused the vessel to hit the ramp.

Twenty-four people were on board the ferry, called The York, the Coast Guard said. Four passengers had minor injuries as a result of the impact, and one was taken to Jersey City Medical Center for further treatment.

The Coast Guard says the cause of the ferry hit is being investigated but it's not believed to be a mechanical problem.

The Coast Guard was on the scene, along with local fire and police departments.
