A dozen people were hurt after a tour bus carrying crew members of singer Twin Shadow slammed into tractor-trailer on a fog-blanketed stretch of a Colorado highway Friday morning, causing a multi-vehicle crash that also involved the tour bus of a second band, authorities said.
The four-vehicle crash happened at 8:20 a.m. when the Twin Shadow bus hit the rear of a semi that was stopped in traffic on Interstate 70 in Aurora, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The tour bus then hit a second semi and another tour bus, traveling separately, which was carrying members of the country band Thompson Square, the Patrol said.
The driver of the Twin Shadow tour bus, identified as John Crawford, 41, was brought to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Eleven other passengers from that bus were also hospitalized, State Patrol said. They were not identified, and it's not clear whether Twin Shadow, whose real name is George Lewis Jr., was on the bus or injured.
Twin Shadow's performance scheduled for Friday night at Bluebird Theater in Denver was canceled, according to the venue.
The 10 passengers on Thomson Square's tour bus weren't injured, according to police. The country band said on Facebook that their bus was largely undamaged, adding: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who were injured and their families." The drivers of the two semis were also unhurt.
The Colorado State Patrol said no charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation. Fog and weather are being eyed as likely factors in the crash, police said.
"Given the severity and damage on scene, we consider this a lucky day for all involved," the Colorado State Patrol wrote on Facebook. "It is a sobering reminder (including to us!) that weather is no respecter of vehicles and to always be on alert when behind the wheel!"
