Larry King may have retired in 2010, but he didn't give up interviewing for long, going on to host not one but two web talk shows, "Larry King Now" and "Politicking." And, the 80-year-old revealed Tuesday on TODAY, he could find time for yet another gig.
"I got an idea: I'll do CNN, I'll do 'Larry King Now,' I'll do Dodger baseball — I do a show on there — I'll do the radio, and then" — he leaned over and quietly asked TODAY's Willie Geist — "how about the TODAY show?"
A classic move from the self-described "workaholic," who spent 26 years at CNN with his "Larry King Live" show before retiring. But "Now" roared back in 2012 and airs on Ora TV, Hulu and RT, which keeps the veteran interviewer busy.
As for his latest job application, King's TODAY request was not ignored. After he mentioned getting a spot on the show, Savannah Guthrie dashed over to the set and leaned down. "Let's see how we look together," she laughed, posing with him.
So much for taking it easy in his later years. "I thought I was retiring," he said. "I thought I could retire. But I once asked Milton Berle years ago was he going to retire, and he said, 'To what?'"
Indeed. "Larry King Now" airs on Ora.tv Monday through Thursday at 5 p.m., and "Politicking" airs Thursday at 9:30 p.m. As for his TODAY show slot, still unannounced.
