Many others sounded off to make the point that varied voices in storytelling are crucial to represent the increasing diversity in America’s population. This year's ceremony is the least diverse since 1998, with no nominations for actors or actresses of color, and no nods for women directors, screenwriters or cinematographers. Singer, John Legend, rapper, Common and critically acclaimed Mexican director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, are the most prominent nominees of color.
